John Mauchly and J. Presper Eckert complete UNIVAC1, the first commercial and administrative computer produced in the United States. It was used by the United States Census Bureau for the population census. The fifth such computer was used by CBS television station in 1952 to successfully predict the outcome of the election using only 1% of the vote.
