Amid the sound and fury of the artificial generative intelligence boom, consulting is undergoing a largely unnoticed but profoundly transformative revolution that will shape its future.
Traditional consulting is based on teams of highly qualified professionals dedicated to research, data analysis and the formulation of customized recommendations. It’s a costly and slow business model, and consultancies have found that AGI has had an immediate impact through the automation of many routine tasks, speeding up analysis and drastically expanding capacity. The result, in general, is greater operational efficiency, the replacement of junior level consultants and assistants with generative algorithms, faster project development and better margins.
As a result, clients are increasingly demanding that consultants integrate this technology. In a recent survey by IBM, 86% of global executives who buy consulting services said they are actively seeking providers that use AI, while 66% added that they would stop working with consultancies that do not. This is forcing consultancies to reinvent themselves: what once required weeks of manual labor can now be achieved in days or hours with the help of AGI.
