Nike's decision to use Colin Kaepernick as the face of its latest advertising campaign has been met with both anger and celebration.
The quarterback has not played in the NFL since the 2016 season, when he began kneeling during the national anthem to raise awareness about police brutality against African-Americans and other racial injustices.
Following the revelation of the ad, some upset sports fans started posting videos to social media of themselves burning and cutting up their Nike apparel.
At least one person, Twitter user Phil Braun, decided to burn his Nike sneakers ... while still wearing them.
Others celebrated the company's decision.
