The CEO won’t talk about anything else.
Mark Zuckerberg’s Metaverse is the biggest project for Facebook parent company Meta. But while CEO Mark Zuckerberg is making everything revolve around the virtual reality project, Facebook employees are fed up of having to listen to the billionaire’s plans.
Reported by Insider, current and former employees of the Zuckerberg company are tired of hearing about The Metaverse. With the VR tech being an obsession for Meta, many are tired of the technology already.
Employees fed up of Zuckerberg’s Metaverse obsession
According to current and former employees at Facebook, the Metaverse is “the only thing Mark [Zuckerberg] wants to talk about.” However, the massive shift in company focus is confusing and angering workers.
A current employee told Insider that Zuckerberg’s Metaverse obsession is “fomenting disorganization and anxiety.” They explained: ” People don’t really seem to know what to deliver or what to work on because there is still no coherent strategy.”
As Meta continues to make sweeping changes in its chase for The Metaverse, many existing employees are left confused. Despite this, the focus continues to become a bigger part of every company Meta has.
One employee explained that employees are told to focus on The Metaverse, even going as far to create new “teams that are metaverse specific”. One team will be focused on creating a “Metaverse playbook” to teach other teams, something that would’ve been good to have earlier.

Meta is losing billions on the project
Despite the massive Metaverse focus, Meta is losing an unfathomable amount of money on The Metaverse. In development at the company for years, the project has become a black hole of money. For example, last year alone saw Meta lose $10 billion on development of the metaverse.
The Metaverse is a long-term project for Meta. While the service is currently available through Horizon Worlds, a very rough VR app, it’s reportedly at least a decade away from where it should be. Additionally, the company is expected to make the project available across mixed reality, including AR glasses
Meta’s AR glasses are also a huge part of Zuckerberg’s Metaverse obsession with some employees claiming the CEO’s ego rests on the project’s success. However, just like The Metaverse, many are unsure if the tech will be as popular as Zuckerberg wants it to be.
That’s one of the main issues with The Metaverse. Despite Meta’s huge push for the tech, it’s too far away and too confusing for some. While it may take off in the future, many are wary of giving into a virtual world governed by Facebook.
